Celebrating Spirit Week

By Keith Loh, staff reporter

Another year of spirit week has come to an end. Spirit week was from January 12th to January 16th.

Monday was pajama day and students came in their pajamas. Tuesday was character day and students were given a chance to dress up as their favorite fictional characters. Wednesday was wayback day; students dressed up in any style from the past few decades, whether it was in a suit or as a hippie.

Thursday was twin day, where students came in wearing the same outfit as another student. Lastly was fashion friday where students wore a top hat was hand crafted in some way whether it was sewn, stapled, painted or glued. jeans were allowed if students.

“I’m looking forward to character day. I’m dressing up as Ezio from Assassin’s Creed with my best friend Ivana, who’s dressing up as Hermione from Harry Potter,” freshman James Panagakos said.

Spirit week gave the opportunity for all students to bond with one another and become a single student body. It also gives students the chance to express themselves in a more creative way when school is usually a restrictive place. Some even find it to be a stress reliever because they’re able to cut loose and enjoy themselves.

“Spirit week is a time for me to be able to get out of uniform,” junior Binnah Cha says.

Though the purpose of spirit week is to raise school spirits, there are those who find spirit week to be distracting. Students tend to roam the halls more during this week and are more active which can cause focusing to be more difficult. There are also those that take advantage of spirit week and use it as an excuse to wear jeans and non-WJPS uniform.

Spirit Week was originally planned to be on October 27-31st but was pushed back to this January 12-16th due to the other activities taking place, such as the Haunted Hallway and Field Day.
